Eric's Wars

A war is where my friends and I run around and shoot each other with Nerf® or other foam shooting weapons. We play at a local Public Grade school. Schools usually have the best combinations of cover and open areas.

We all wear eye protection because it is a good idea. It is not likely anything bad will happen, but if you do get hit in the eye it is going to hurt, a lot.

We also bring a first aid kit 'cause if you fall down you don't want to get an infection or bleed all over the place, now do you? Also pain killers (aspirin) are a good idea if you are far from your home when playing.

I also strongly recommend younger kids have parental supervision. That way in case someone gets hurt you have someone to help.

There are three different types of games we play:
Standard war - When you get hit you die. You are dead until the next game starts.
Resurrection war - When you die remember who killed you. If they die, you are alive again. If there is a simultaneous death, your both dead for good. The person who wins this killed everyone. Cool hunh?
Mini war - This is a war using only one small arm, and played in a reduced area. Sub-rules are played as one of the standard two games (Standard war, Resurrection war).
Night Stalker - Night Stalker is cool if you are a teen or older. This is either of the standard two games, usually just the standard war, but done at night in the 'dark'. Being at a public area it is usually covered in 1/2 dark, 1/2 light, which messes with your eyes and makes hiding fun. If you do this do not dress in dark clothing or 'war paint' which could make you mistaken for a burglar. Sure wear dark cloths, but make them normal cloths.

War Rules

Here are the rules we follow for all of our games:

Rule 1: There is no wounding only death!
If you get hit, you are dead, end of story.

Subrules:
1) Ricochets
or gun hits do not count. Once ammo has impacted a surface, it's deadly effect is spent.
1a) You may not purposely use your weapon to block shots. If you do so you will be issued a warning. If you do so again your weapon will be counted as a viable target and you are dead.
1b) Catching ammo is counted as voluntary death.
2) Excessive ammo, that is ammo in a holder of some fashion, counts as a body part and is therefore a viable target.

Rule 2: Loot the dead.

Subrules:
1) You can take
as much ammo or weapons as you like from a dead person before they reach the designated graveyard.
1a) You may not take holders of weapon(s) or ammo, only the toys themselves.
2) During a Resurrection battle this rule becomes voluntary. You do not have to surrender your toys when you are dead as doing so may disrupt the flow of the game.

Rule 3: (The uh-duh clause) Don't risk bodily / building injury
Meaning do not climb on the building or run away when you are out of ammo.

Subrules:
1) Schools
or other public buildings may have silent alarms. Do not bang on the windows or climb on the roof. Although police usually view Wars as any other sport there are some who will view you as a 'hooligan with a gun' and not be so kind to you. Just better to avoid the issue entirely.

Rule 4: Mini Wars
The Mini War is either a Standard war or Resurrection war, but in a reduced area. Only small arms are allowed (those toys with 35 feet maximum range or less). Best and fairest weapon choice for mini war are toys which shoot Micro Suction Darts.

Subrules:
1) Ammo will be limited
to a set number of shots per person. You may never have more than this amount. You may (if you are cruel) guard ammo greater than this number if it is on the floor, but you may never exceed this number in your possession. [We usually go with 3 or 4.]
1b) Ammo which is not the type your toy uses can not be guarded, or picked up by you. It is strictly off limits.
2) The only Hand to Hand weapons which are legal are: A) The glove (pictured left), which is 5 normal sized arrows on your fingers. B) A short sword (approximately 2.5x as long and 2x as wide as a normal arrow).
2b) Hand to Hand weapons may only block shots with the 'blade' part of the weapon, that is the parts which are foam. If you are touched on the hand you are dead.
3) Only one weapon is allowed per person in a Mini war.

Rule 4: Truce
Sometimes something goes wrong and you need to call a Truce. To begin the game again you must have at least 50 feet between the parties involved before calling "truce over".

Subrules:
1) Killing
during a truce is illegal.

Rule 5: Night Stalker
Night Stalker is a game played at night, where the visibility is reduced to 15 - 50 feet. It is highly recommended to wear dark / warm clothing to a Night Stalker event. It is also recommended to bring a flashlight to find your stray ammo. Weapons which are highly accurate and only have one or two shots are highly recommended.

Subrules:
1) Dark clothing
is recommended. Masks, or war paint, is not allowed, and you may be mistaken for a burglar and taken to jail. This would be bad, avoid it. Always make it obvious you are here to play a game (do not bring large empty bags or extra unnecessary equipment).
2) Flashlights are a good idea, as ammo can be lost easily.

Birthday Hunt
The Birthday Hunt is a special game we play when it is some ones birthday. Everyone is hunting the birthday person and the rules are as follows:
1) The birthday person gets 1 life for each 2 opponents (round up).
2) Hunters may only hunt in groups of 2, or on their own independant of each other.
3) Only 2 hunters may be attacking and visible to the hunted at any given time. (This is to prevent the hunted from getting overly ganged up on.)
This is a good and challenging game. We have found there is about a 25% chance the hunted will live through the game.

Chaos War
The Chaos War takes an incredible amount of skill (or daring). The rules are simple yet the game is hard.
1) Each person chooses a different weapon (every last toy must be different).
2) Each person may only have 1 weapon each.
3) When you kill someone you must take their weapon.

Phew, those are all the rules, if you read them all I congratulate you.

If you intend to have a War remember where you are, be it a public play ground or private property. There are other people who may encounter your game, always be safe for your sake and theirs, and be polite when on private property and if asked to leave do so, it is only a game, it is not worth going to jail over.

Have fun, and happy hunting!
